SPSS select cases

I får lige nedenstående spørgsmål på engelsk, da jeg har lavet indlægget på et andet forum også, og ikke orker at oversætte. Det giver lidt ekstra point så. :-)


Hi. I'm fairly new to SPSS so bear with me. I need to narrow down my huge dataset (600.000 posts) with some specific criteria that I know, but don't know how to tell SPSS to do.

Example of my data:

Variables:
ID
Type
Priority
Note

Data example
246    GG098          A                    blabla
246    JE8314          B                    blabla
321    TH831          A                    blabla
321    GG098          B                    blabla

Comments on flaws in the design of the table will not help, since i'm not the designer of the data. It's from an external supplier. :-)

Here's the question. I want something along the lines of:

IF TYPE = "GG098" AND PRIORITY = "A" THEN SELECT ALL CASES WITH THAT ID

In other words, in the above example of data I want the first two posts based on the fact that GG098 is priority A in that ID. Does the question make sense? How do I do this in SPSS?

So two questions:

1. How do I do the above in SPSS?

2. How do I write the above if I instead of "GG098" want "GG*" (all posts that start with GG)
