IIS unable to bind SSL connection

The Win2K/IIS server that I'm working with has an installed Verisign certificate installed. From the www configuration panel the certificate can be browsed and is displayed as valid.

The SSL connection is configured to run on port 443 as normal, but the port is not active, and when restarting the default web site, an error occurs in the event log indicating that an it was unable to bind 'an instance' (probably SSL port 80 is running fine).

Going a bit further back in the log, an error propably from last restart indicates something like 'unable to create server credentials' ...?

The SSL connection has been working fine before, but trying to get rid of a presisten virus seems to have currupted the configuration.

Have you got any idea of what might be the problem? Will the server need to have services running to run SSL, that I might have turned of?
