here we go...
assuming that you have windows NT server at least on one side then here is what a normal set up looks like:
on the server you need 2 net cards. one which is accessible from WAN (home users) and one with in you LAN (resources like mails server file servers)
Don not worry about security!
on the WAN card, block all ports on net card advanced settings except for port 1723 TCP and 43 IP, mark \"allow filtering\"
you LAN should be behind a firewall.
the installation its self:
on the server install the PPTP protocol (network properties then protocols) which prompts you to install RAS.
Reapply SP6a and hot fixes (important after adding RAS)
on user manger \"grand dial in permissions\" (no need for call-back)
on the client:
if win2k then simple new connection wizard where you insert IP instead of a phone number
If NT WS then the same as win2k only no wizard, just a phonebook entry.
if win9x then view the manual I made on my server at
http://e.b-bizz.dkPs. If the server you choose to run as a VPN server is win2k then you do it through RRAS but the same principles as described for NT.
