How do I configure remote management with a router?
A N S W E R
This feature is available on firmwares 1.32 and newer.
Note: Verify that the Internet connection is operational before trying to access the Router remotely for the first time.
1. Open your browser and input
http://192.168.1.1 into the "Address Bar".
2. You will be prompted for a User Name and password. Leave the User Name blank, and input admin as the Password.
3. Click on the Advanced tab.
4. Enable Remote Management on the Filters Tab.
5. Try to access the Router via a remote connection, such as
http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8080 Example: If 24.2.36.254 was your IP address, then typing
http://24.2.36.254:8080 in the browser from a remote location (along with entering the appropriate password), will allow access to the Router's Setup page.
Please be advised, if your internet service provider uses dynamic IP addresses or PPPOE, the address may change from time to time, and the remote management may not be accessible at the address expected.
Some ISP's will block port 8080, if this is the case, then you'll need to upgrade to the latest firmware which will let you specify which port you want remote administration to be setup on. (To upgrade your firmware please goto
http://www.linksys.com/download). After you upgrade your firmware you'll see an option next to Remote Management (Step 4), change the port remote management ues to something like 1000, and then in step 5, replace the 8080, with 1000 (or what ever you specify).
