Profile of skills and competences
A qualified automation technician is able to:
· detect and correct errors, adjust components and undertake preventive maintenance of components (and of models in relation to some systems) using relevant control and adjustment equipment in the fields of machinery and processing systems, covering mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical areas;
· undertake the installation and running in of the above mentioned equipment using documentation in Danish and other languages;
· make minor adjustments and constructions based on user requirements and prepare accompanying documentation
in accordance with directions and applicable safety regulations.
A qualified automation technician has experience in:
· The building, installation, maintenance, control, error detection and correction of systems, machinery and products.
· Using the tools of the trade well as testing and measuring equipment.
· Planning work processes.
· Preparing technical documentation as well as user documentation and instructions.
Range of occupations accessible to the holder of the certificate
Qualified automation technicians work with the construction, maintenance and servicing of automatic production systems as well as with computer control. The systems vary considerably in size, ranging from very large systems such as a power plant to quite small systems such as an industrial robots for the production of tins and the like. Automation technicians may also be employed at hospitals where they work with the production and control of conveyor systems and room temperature regulators. Automation technicians may be employed where such systems are manufactured or where they are used. An automation technician has broad qualifications and is a multitasker in the field of automatics and process systems. The boundaries between the trades of metalworkers, machine attendants and electricians are often diffuse. Rapid development in the fields of electronics, electrical technology, pneumatics and mechanical technology is a natural part of an automation technician’s everyday work.
Duration and mode of education and training
The total duration of the education and training programme 4 years, with 60 weeks of formal education and training and 148 weeks of on-the-job training.
Danish vocational education and training programmes are alternating programmes, which means that the education and training activities alternate between education and training at a school and on-the-job training in an enterprise.
