Odbc datakilder

Et kort og kontant spørgsmål er access-driveren (i ODBC datakilder) med ved en ren installation af windows 98/ME/2000 og xp uden at access er installeret.

Dvs. kan jeg tilgå en access database fra VB uden at have installeret access?

You should be able to , if not you can download MDAC from Microsoft.

You do NOT need access to open an Access database.

In VB you can (should be able to) choose DAO or ADO in the Project References.

Hi terry...

To be more specific... im developing a cd-rom with a website. The site is programmed in VB-script. I open the database as followed:

set MyDB = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
MyDB.Open "knudedan"

Now i want to write an installation-application that makes a new ODBC datasource named knudedan. I don't think this could be a problem. Now i wonder. What if the pc im running the application on is a win98 without access-installed. Does windows 98 then have the ODBC datasource "application-thing"

First, I must say that I dont know much at all about ASP, as I think this is what we are talking about isnt it?
Next, your application you are making. If this IS a web based application then your database will be located on a server which MUST support access (ASP). Because the database is on a server then it must b ethe server which has the ODBC source set up and NOT the client. I hope you are aware of this?
You can also make a DSN-less connection so you don NOT need to set up the data source.
