Outlook Web Access

Hejsa,

could it be that your domain controller is win2k AD? if so then you need to make sure that the server you install exchange on has the right DNS settings.
when I say right DNS settings I don\'t just mean that it can resolve internet names, but that it can resolve service records.
2000 DNS holds records that indicate a domain controller.
In default installations it is the same server that has AD installed that has DNS installed. but it doesn\'t have to be that way.
This might explain why your installation thinks it is not a part of a domain when it is infect so.
if your domain is NT PDC then ignore my DNS remarks and try to find an answer here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/exchange/content/whitepapers/owa_tshoot.asp

Remember that Exchange installation is not enough for OWA. you need to have IIS enabled on the server you install OWA.

a tip. IIS and exchange don\'t have to be on the same server.

dr.m > You will have to explain this for me :o)

Heres my scenario:

Server 1:
Windows2000 Server
Exchange 5.5
Active Directory

Server 2 - The one I want to connect to Server 1:
Windows2000 Server
DNS Server
IIS Server
pre-AD user management (the \'old\' one).

It\'s on Server 2 I want to install Outlook Web Access.

I know that the user management ... well it sux, since you have to create users on both servers. This is subject to change, but not right now :o/

What I get from your reply, is that I should add a DNS record for a domain controller server (is this a WKS (Well Known Service)) on the DNS server.

Is this what you mean, or am I going in the wrong direction?

Thanx in advance

you are right. a DNS in AD has to indicate a domain controller, see this: http://www.svein.dk/Windows2000/DNS/konfigurer_dns.htm

you should be able to install JUST the OWA part of exchange 5.5 on server 2 (it will ask you where the exchange server is under the installation)

the rest is easy enough.

Your main problem right now is to get your server 2 convinced that you have a domain controller somewhere. DNS might be the trick.
