ISSUE: Slow printing from Windows with OfficeJet R Series
Some things that may affect print speed are:
The size and complexity of the file being printed. For example, graphics are usually more complex and print slower than files containing only text. Printing text or images that require dense ink coverage or printing in a hot environment. Both of these factors will cause the printer to slow down to avoid overheating the cartridges. SOLUTION: The most common causes of slow printing from Microsoft (R) Windows are the following:
An incorrect printer driver is selected. Verify that the correct driver is installed. Choose Start and Settings. Select Printers. Right-click the HP all-in-one product to view the pull-down menu. Verify that there is a check mark next to Set As Default. If no check mark appears, select Set As Default and retry printing. If the check mark is present, select Properties. Select Details. On the \"Print using the following driver\" line, verify the correct printer driver is listed. If not, delete the driver and reinstall the correct one. If the correct driver is listed, continue to step 2. The HP driver is set to Best and/or Glossy / Transparency paper. Verify the driver settings for Print Quality and Paper Type. Choose Start and Settings. Select Printers. Highlight the HP OfficeJet icon. Choose File and Properties. Under the Paper tab, verify that Paper Type is set to Plain Paper. Under the Setup tab, verify that Print Quality is set to Normal or EconoFast. If yes, continue to step 3. If not, make these changes and retry printing. Bidirectional communication is interfering with the printer operation. Try the following steps. Note: if the HP all-in-one product is used for scanning, then bi-directional communication is required. Choose Start. Choose Settings. Choose Printers. Right-click the HP product icon to view its pull-down menu. Choose Properties. Select the Details tab. Select Port Settings. Remove the checks from \"Spool MS DOS Print Jobs\" and \"Check Port State Before Printing\" and choose OK. Choose Spool Settings. Select the line \"Print Directly to the Printer.\" This will change the Spool Data Format from EMF to RAW. Choose OK. Choose Apply and then OK. Retry printing. If the print speed has not improved, continue to step 6. Excessive temporary files can tie up system resources. Delete unneeded temporary files. NOTE: Deleting temporary files should be done carefully so that necessary files are not deleted. All temporary files end with .tmp for the extension. If unsure about the proper procedures for identifying, locating, or selecting temporary files for deletion, contact the Microsoft Windows Technical Support or the computer manufacturer for assistance.
Select Start, Programs, then choose Windows Explorer. Select Tools in the Menu Bar. Choose Find. Choose Files or Folders. On the \"Named\" line, type *.TMP and in the \"Look In\" line type C:\\. There should be a check in the \"Include Subfolders\" box. Choose \"Find Now.\" If any files are returned in the Search Results list, choose Edit in the Menu Bar. Choose Select All. Select File in the Menu Bar. Choose Delete. The computer system is running at the minimum requirements. Check the system resources. Right-click My Computer to retrieve the \"My Computer\" pull-down menu. Choose Properties. In Properties, choose the Performance tab and verify the RAM. Close Properties. Open My Computer and right-click the C:\\ drive to retrieve the C:\\ drive pull-down menu. Choose Properties and verify the amount of free hard disk space under the General tab. The system will need a minimum of 8 MB of RAM and 10 MB of free hard disk space in order to print to the HP product. If the system meets only the minimum requirements, adding more RAM and/or freeing additional hard disk space may enhance performance. System resources are being used by other applications. Verify that no software programs are running in the background. NOTE: Be sure to make backup copies of the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files prior to making any changes.
Go to the Windows 95 Desktop and, on the keyboard, press CTRL + ALT + DEL one time to retrieve the Close Programs screen. If any software programs other than Explorer are listed, highlight the software program and choose End Task. Repeat this step until all software programs are closed except Explorer. Retry printing. If the print speed has not improved, return to the Windows 95 Desktop. Choose Start. Choose Run. In the Run screen, type WIN.INI and choose OK to retrieve the WIN.INI file. Check the Load= and Run= lines. If any software programs are listed here, remark out the Load= and/or Run= lines by placing a semi-colon (;) in front of the line. Select File, then Save and close the WIN.INI file. Open Windows Explorer. Under the C:\\ drive, open the Windows folder, the Start Menu folder, then the Programs folder. In the Programs window, open StartUp. Drag and drop any icons residing within StartUp to another Program group Programs. Close Windows Explorer and restart Windows. Retry printing. If the print speed has not improved, continue to step 4.
