Regionsfri Liteon

What is RPC, RPC-2, RCE, CSS and Macro-Vision?
Because DVD was develop designed to store and playback movies, the eight major film industry company had a hand on setting the specifications: CSS (Content Scramble System) is added to prevent digital duplication of DVD disc; Macro-Vision is added to prevent copying through analog devices such as VCR. Due the different release time of DVD version of films in different regions of world, the film industry wanted to prevent DVD sold in one region be able to transported to where is title is not release. Based on this requirement, the film industry divided the world into 7 regions (see attached table), and required all DVD disc and DVD playback devices to embed regional code. Only when the disc's regional code match that of the player, can the movie be played, and this is called Regional Playback Control (RPC).
However, these three method of protection have all been hacked. There are a lot of maker of all-region discs and all-region players. So, the movie industry introduced RCE (Regional Control Enhancement) that render all the all-region playback devices useless.
RPC-2 is set of DVD-ROM use only. It allows PC users to change regional code setting on their DVD-ROM drive 5 times in order to play movies from different region. After the fifth time, the drive must be returned to manufacture to reset PRC-2 counter in order to make future changes. And the manufacture is only allowed to perform such reset 4 times. So, after a total of 25 changes of regional code, a user can no longer change settings on DVD-ROM drive.

Regional Code Covered Area

# 1 US, Canada Area

# 2 Japan, Europe, Mid-East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland, Western Asia

# 3 Taiwan, South Korea, South-eastern Asia

# 4 Central and South America, New Zealand and Australia,

# 5 Africa, Central-Asia, Russia, Mongolia, India

# 6 China

# 7 For use in aircraft only.
